Wow, this girl knows her stuff!

Day of Faith: Personal Quests for a Purpose - 3. Rachel Esplin from Harvard Hillel on Vimeo.

This girl is from Blackfoot, Idaho and is a student at Harvard.
She was asked to be on a panel for a
"Day of Faith" and was given the opportunity to
answer questions about the church.
Her mother teaches communication at
BYU-Idaho. This girl's parents and former
YW's leaders must be so proud.
She answers some tough questions
(garments, cult status, Joseph Smith,
temples, equal rights for women, etc).
She did a terrific job. It takes a
while to watch, but it's so worth your time!!!

The guy sitting by her seems fascinated.
About 20 minutes
if you have time to watch it!
[Took forever to download
but was interesting to hear her perspectives.]

I love when people do this! What a wonderful way to spread the gospel.

Watched the whole thing with my husband (he had to pause The Biggest Loser) -- thanks for sharing this.

It's wonderful to see someone so well spoken and knowledgeable about the Gospel share what she knows in a way that clarifies the individual and personal nature of our faith. I get so tired of people saying the whole cult thing. Personal conversion, personal spiritual growth, personal agency, personal decisions. THe group dynamic doesn't have near as much sway when people are truly converted to the Gospel.

Definately an award winning post!!!

Thanks so much for sharing with us and letting us know about it. She did a fantastic job! No wonder she's at Harvard! :-)

on marriage

'Will you, um, marry me?' I haven't seen you in weeks! You don't look happy or excited about the prospect of our marriage! You're asking me to give up my - my freedom, my joie de vivre for an institution that fails as often as it succeeds? And why should I marry you anyway? I mean, why do you wanna marry me? Besides some bourgeois desire to fulfill an ideal that society embeds in us from an early age to promote a consumer capitalist agenda?
